Day 3: Escape from Austin

No, not the 3rd installment of the Kurt Russell franchise...
Boy did I have a wild day. It started off nice and swell at Thunderbird, a local coffee joint owned by Ryan McElroy, a childhood friend of my dad's. I sat around in the dirt while they talked about all the old people from the neighborhood.
After that we headed to the senior center to see gramma Rohlich in her element, at the bridge tables. She gave us a tour and we saw lots of game rooms and friendly people.
Then I met baby Sadie and her parents Liz and Sascha. I stayed in the backyard and played with all the cat toys I could find while they visited with the sleeping baby.
Next up we went to see Beth and Kaya. We went to a dog park where I got bit by a mean little pit bull mix. I bled a little bit, but I'm ok.
After dinner at el Patio was the real adventure. Dad tried to pull me into gramma's house without putting my harness on and I slipped out of my collar! I ran around the neighborhood, not listening to one word they yelled at me, for the next 30 minutes. Before they both puked from running so far I cornered myself in a garage and gave up. I'm not sure why I did it but I feel kind of bad because they seemed pretty scared. I was tired after that so while they played card games and dominoes with gramma, i slept. Tomorrow, on to New Orleans and hopefully no more time off leash!!

Day 2: Texas Forever

Is this gonna be forever!? Wow, is west Texas huge and dry...but I love it.

We left the Deming La Quinta Inn at 5 AM this morning in order to make it to gramma Rohlich's house by dinner time. Watching the sun rise was a beautiful sight over the desolate landscape. Dad and I then fell asleep for 3 hours until we stopped for gas in FT. Hancock. This is apparently where chicken fried steaks come from, but I have my doubts.

We arrived in Austin just in time for tons of treats. Gramma served her chicken drumsticks, three bean salad and world famous cookies for the humans, while uncle Karl gave me some Santa doggie snacks. They were paired to perfection with the chicken bones I ate out of the trash while everyone was talking.

We capped off a dinner conversation about everything from the CIA to state child development guidelines by watching the Packers lose in dramatic fashion. I was also introduced to the infamous "Rohlich boot ornament" that no one can explain an origin story for. Just like me! I think that's why I like it.

All in all, a great day and I can't wait to meet more Rohlichs tomorrow!

Day 1: Meet Me in Deming

Sorry for the delay, Deming has NO RECEPTION.
I feel it appropriate to quote one of my favorite movies on this first day.
"You seek a great fortune, you three who are now in chains. You will find a fortune, though it will not be the fortune you seek. But first... first you must travel a long and difficult road, a road fraught with peril. Mm-hmm. You shall see thangs, wonderful to tell. You shall see a... a cow... on the roof of a cotton house, ha. And, oh, so many startlements. I cannot tell you how long this road shall be, but fear not the obstacles in your path, for fate has vouchsafed your reward. Though the road may wind, yea, your hearts grow weary, still shall ye follow them, even unto your salvation."
Here are the pics from day 1...
