Day 2: Texas Forever

Is this gonna be forever!? Wow, is west Texas huge and dry...but I love it.

We left the Deming La Quinta Inn at 5 AM this morning in order to make it to gramma Rohlich's house by dinner time. Watching the sun rise was a beautiful sight over the desolate landscape. Dad and I then fell asleep for 3 hours until we stopped for gas in FT. Hancock. This is apparently where chicken fried steaks come from, but I have my doubts.

We arrived in Austin just in time for tons of treats. Gramma served her chicken drumsticks, three bean salad and world famous cookies for the humans, while uncle Karl gave me some Santa doggie snacks. They were paired to perfection with the chicken bones I ate out of the trash while everyone was talking.

We capped off a dinner conversation about everything from the CIA to state child development guidelines by watching the Packers lose in dramatic fashion. I was also introduced to the infamous "Rohlich boot ornament" that no one can explain an origin story for. Just like me! I think that's why I like it.

All in all, a great day and I can't wait to meet more Rohlichs tomorrow!

  3. I know Gramma Mary didn't drink both those bottles of wine on the table, but it kinda looks that way by their placement. Haha. It was a great evening, Kima.
