Day 4: Beignet, Done That

We left Austin with a bag full of gramma's cookies at the same time that Cathy and Ginny were going to the Barton Springs Solstice swim. This means it was early!!
We got into New Orleans at around 3pm, having traveled over the huge Mississippi River iron bridge. To commemorate my first adventure east of the Old River the nice people at the W Hotel gave me some treats and my own dog bowl for the room. Also, it seemed that everyone that worked at the hotel had bacon treats in their pocket for me every time I passed by.
We walked around Bourbon Street first until my Mom quickly decided that it was gross and smelly. We went down to the waterfront instead and it was much nicer. There was a group of kids playing the "Saints go Marching in" and lots of cool ferry boats.
For dinner we headed to the Garden District and a place called Joey K's. Gumbo, shrimp po boy, creole shrimp pasta and an Abita Purple Haze for desert. Delish!
The rest of the night we spent driving around the garden district looking at cemeteries, music venues like Tipitina's and Maple Leaf, and staring into people's massive Victorian homes.

Phew! What a day!
